Did you know? Things we saw and learned at the DKCCO

DKMS is one of many organizations that do bone marrow donation swabs. They all register results with the national registry but DKMS has some advantages over the other organizations.

Seen in the Tiferet hallway: An indoor traffic jam started by the stilt cowboy.

Standing room crowd for the Pitzel Puppet Players show. Will these new fans come to monthly performances during each school year?

Vendors selling a wide and exciting variety of products. So much fun to shop!

Office Manager Reporting in on an outstanding Cook-off

Since this is my first Chili Cook-off, I had no idea what to expect. I can safely say that I am beyond impressed with the amazing job that all our wonderful volunteers have done to make this Chili Cook-Off a super successful day!
An organization that depends on volunteers is at the mercy of the whims of those members. I am so proud to say that Tiferet Volunteers put their synagogue and this Cook-Off first on their calendars and in their hearts. There is a real spirit of willingness and giving in the air.
We have to call this day a huge success! People from all over the community are enjoying delicious chili, fellowship, fun for all ages and the company of their peers. The halls are crowded, the tents have lines waiting to taste the chili, the hamburgers, hotdogs and falfals are being in enjoyed. Cotton candy and popcorn are making children’s faces light up. A cold drink cools the fire of all that chili!
I am proud to be a part of all this excitement and hope that you have joined us for this event. If not, why not? I hope that we will see you at the 20th as we strive to top this year’s event. What a big task that will be!

Mazel Tov Tiferet! And to The 19th Annual Kosher Chili Cook-Off !

It’s Getting Hotter…A Guide to Getting to the DKCCO Safely and Enjoying Yourself

Well, it’s finally here, hope you’re hungry!

The Basics

The Dallas Kosher Chili Cook-Off will be held at Congregation Tiferet Israel at 10909 Hillcrest Rd., Dallas, on Sunday, March 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children over 3 years of age. Non-perishable food is collected at the entry booths for distribution through Jewish Family Services (http://www.jfsdallas.org/emergency), an affiliate of the North Texas Food Bank.

Click here for the official Dallas Kosher Chili Cook-Off website.

Click here for the Tiferet Israel website… Home of the Dallas Kosher Chili Cook-Off.

A schedule of events is posted on the blog in a separate entry.

Click here to see our location.

Paid entry will be on the north and south sides of the building at the driveway entrances.

Parking

Rain or shine, parking will be available in these locations:

JCC Parking Lot (the free shuttle bus stops near the front door and runs frequently to the cook-off)

Royal Lane Baptist Church (after 12:00 noon only)

Shine only with dry ground: parking will be available on the easement on the east side of Hillcrest, or by the Northaven Trail across Hillcrest (golf carts will bring people across Hillcrest).

Bike Parking is a new concept for us! If you ride your bike and want to lock it up, please choose a location away from high traffic pedestrian spots to allow egress out of the building.

Passenger Loading/Unloading

An area at the entrance will be designated for passenger loading and unloading. Drivers need to stay with the vehicle at all times and then move the vehicle for parking into a permitted parking spot.

Restrooms

Spicy chili + drinks = Chances are great that you’ll need to go sometime while you’re at the cook-off!

When was the last time you attended a festival with thousands and could use a real bathroom, not just a portable outdoor facility?

Tiferet has two sets of bathrooms: one on the north side and one on the south. Either can be accessed by ramp. The south side restroom is recommended for those who need complete ramp access and extra space to maneuver (see below about ramp access).

Ramp Access to the Building

For chili-lovers who need ramp access, we have three entrances to provide entrance to different parts of the building.

To get to the south side restrooms (with more space to maneuver), the office, room 4, or conference room, please enter the building on the south side from the door across from the church’s portable buildings.

To get to Katz Hall, the north side restrooms, you can either enter from the door on the south side of the building closest to Hillcrest Road or from the parking lot, enter from the door between the playground and the building.

First Aid

First aid is available. If the injured is mobile, please enter the building and come to the office.

If not, DKCCO officials are stationed around the grounds with a walkie-talkie for quick action.

Lost & Found

Lost and found for items will be in the conference room just inside the door facing the parking lot.

For a lost child, flag down a DKCCO official who will be stationed around the grounds with a walkie-talkie or come to the office.

Tickets

Tickets are not required for eating chili (for adults). Your wristband allows you unlimited chili

Children’s entry fees include the choice of one hot dog or chicken nuggets (new this year!) along with chili.

Purchase tickets for drinks, other food options, outdoor kids’ activities, and souvenirs at the booths located on the north and south sides of the parking lot.

Eating Chili and Other Food

This year’s team booths are color-coordinated. There are 8 teams in each tent.

Additional food is available for purchase at the booth closest to the playground.

Sit to eat in the tent with tables and chairs next to the playground.

Lots of Fun in Addition to Eating

Volunteer check-in booth is in the parking lot. If you are a volunteer, we thank you and want you to check in upon arrival.

Vendors will be in Katz Hall, inside the building, this year.

Silent Auction will be in a tent near the garden.

Outdoor kids’ activities are set up on the grassy area between the parking lot and Northaven Trail – tickets may be required, recommended for all ages. This area is roped off from the walking trail.

Indoor kids’ activities will be in room 4. Pitzel Puppet Players (recommended for all ages) will perform and PJ Library will have a story time and craft. PJ Library is recommended for ages 6 and under, but all are welcome.

Our Title Sponsors: Prescott Pailet Benefts Charitable Fund and Key-Whitman Eye Center have their own booths near the garden. Stop by and say “hello.”

Empire Kosher will be passing out samples of its new microwable chicken product in the tent near the garden.

Look for Kosherfest and others will be in tents near the garden.
