Since its founding in 1994, the Dallas Kosher Chili Cook-Off (DKCC) has proudly supported 59 nonprofit organizations, extending the spirit of generosity far beyond the cook-off itself. Each year, proceeds from the event are directed toward a cause that strengthens and uplifts the Jewish community of Dallas.
This Year’s Charity Recipient: Shomer Texas
This year, we are proud to support Shomer Texas, an organization dedicated to protecting and safeguarding the Jewish communities of the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
Shomer Texas works to build security from within the community by training and deploying licensed, insured, and highly disciplined volunteers who serve as an added layer of protection for Jewish life across North Texas. Their mission is simple but powerful: to ensure that every member of the Jewish community can live openly and proudly, without fear.
Through extensive training programs and strong partnerships with local law enforcement, Shomer volunteers help provide additional security at synagogues, schools, community events, and other Jewish institutions throughout the region.
Protecting the Community We Celebrate
At this year’s Dallas Kosher Chili Cook-Off, Shomer Texas will also be serving the community directly by acting as the event’s security team, helping ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all attendees. Their volunteers undergo intensive preparation that includes:
- Practical security exercises and classroom instruction
- Firearms safety and professional training
- Threat identification and situational awareness
- De-escalation techniques and personal protection
- Emergency response procedures
- Practical security exercises and classroom instruction
Training is provided by licensed NRA instructors, off-duty law enforcement officers, and professional security partners, ensuring that Shomer volunteers are prepared to respond responsibly and effectively.
