Tiferet Israel and the Chili Cook-off Steering Committee have decided to cancel the cook-off this weekend due to health concerns for the Dallas Jewish and general community, the cooking teams, vendors and volunteers.
“Canceling the Dallas Kosher Chili Cook-off was a very difficult decision, however, we feel it is the right decision given the current situation.” said Stuart Roosth, President of Tiferet Israel.
“While we believe we had adequate health precautions in place, many have called us with concerns about having so many in our community together at this time. Our primary concern is the health, safety, and welfare of our community members.” Ed Jerome, Chili Cook-off Co-Chair.
The Drug Take Back program is again participating in the Dallas Kosher Chili Cook-off (DKCC). DKCC is including the program in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the Recovery Resource Council and the Dallas Police. The program provides attendees and any passers-by the opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted, unused and outdated drugs. The drugs can be prescription and non-prescription for human and animals.
The DEA operates its National Drug Take Back Day on Saturdays in April and October. When asked if they would accommodate persons who observe the Sabbath on Saturday and participate in our March event, they were excited to work with us and readily agreed. We are pleased to continue this partnership.
Prompt and proper disposal of unused and expired medication is important to keeping our community safe. Over two-thirds of youth who abuse prescription drugs attain them from family and friends. Community members are encouraged to dispose of unwanted or expired prescription and over-the-counter medication—free and with no questions asked—at the collection sites.¹
A kiosk for dropping off drugs will be located near the south entrance of the 27th Annual Dallas Kosher Chili Cook-off. An information table will be available inside one of the vendor tents.
The Dallas Kosher Chili Cook-off will be held March 15, 2020 from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM at Tiferet Israel, 10909 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, Texas 75230.
